Global Crude Oil Prices: Why Volatility Is Likely To EndureApril 24, 2012

By: Dennis U. Atuanya

Crude oil, albeit in decreasing proportions, will likely remain significant in the global energy utilization mix for the next few years. The impact of the commodity's price on the global economy is therefore palpable. The issue of peak oil is resurgent and there are current concerns - even if somewhat mitigated - about an oil price shock.

Speculations were also rife in 2009 - amid the global economic decline - about an imminent crude oil price shock. The argument then was that the extant, low-price regimes constituted a disincentive to upstream capital expenditure (capex) and that when the global economy began to rebound, oil demand growth would vastly outstrip supply capacity. The International Energy Agency, IEA,...

Road Paving to Take Place By Summer

WhizNews.com

POSTED BY: Jennifer BullockMonday, April 16, 2012 - 03:45 PM

Some county roads may receive makeovers by summer time...

The Muskingum County Engineer's Office met with the County Commissioners Monday to present its annual paving projects for 2012. Two resurfacing projects were proposed for over 22 miles of roadway.

"This is something we do every year. We want to get it out early enough, so what needs paving can be done by the middle, end of July, that way the asphalt can cure out and we can actually get the striping," said Muskingum County Engineer Doug Davis.

Less paving and patching expected in Montgomery April 11, 2012 By MARK MARONEY - mmaroney@sungazette.com , Williamsport Sun-Gazette

MONTGOMERY - It's street paving season in the borough, but the amount of state money available and the soaring cost of asphalt translates to a short list of paving jobs, according to one borough official.

"I've got about $80,000 to play with and that won't go very far with the price of asphalt tripling," said Borough Manager John Lynch, during a monthly council meeting Tuesday night.

The $80,000 is the portion available from state liquid fuels fund that the borough is obliged to spend on any paving projects. The borough has a little more than $100,000 in liquid fuels money but Lynch said he wants to reserve some of it for a new truck.

Over the next two weeks, Lynch said, he will begin to drive around the borough and conduct a road survey...

‘Busiest Two Miles’ of Interstate in Ala. Gets Major RebuildBy: Cindy Riley - CEG CORRESPONDENT

Crews rebuilding the original, 30-year-old concrete roadbed on a more than 2 mi. (3 km) segment of Interstate 65 in Jefferson County, Ala., have finalized the project, which replaces an aging, maintenance intensive segment of I-65 from I-459 to U.S. 31. Work was completed in January 2012 at a total cost of $21,300,920.

“The overall project went very well considering the time limitations, weather limitations and the soil condition on the project,” said Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) spokesperson Linda Crockett. “These subjects, along with the vast amount of traffic, were great challenges. However, with careful planning and quick responses from personnel, it was a success. The project being completed along with others just south of this one, means a safe, smooth ride for motorists for years to come. Now that the work is done, it’s time to move to another portion...
